Good morning and welcome to the final day of our “live” virtual convention.

Today’s agenda includes an opportunity for our local chapters to network and learn from each other’s experiences.

We invite everyone to attend our Annual Business Meeting today at 11:00 am. You do not have to be a member, staff or volunteer at a chapter of The Arc in order to join us. We will be holding our annual board elections and sharing reports about what our chapters have been up to this past year.

Today is also a great day to catch up on viewing some of the recorded sessions you weren’t able to attend live.

Welcome Back!

Today we are looking forward to connecting with you at our Seeds of Change Community Conversations. This is your chance to share your experiences over the past year and let us know what is most important to you moving forward.

Lilia Teninty, Director of Oregon’s Office of Developmental Disabilities Services (ODDS), join us during that session to share information about what’s happening in DD Services.

This afternoon’s breakout sessions will offer some practical tools for decision-making, communication, managing in-home supports, and accessing health care during the pandemic.

Don’t forget to visit the Virtual Exhibit Hall! It is through the generosity of our sponsors and exhibitors that we are able to offer this event for free to families and self-advocates. Be sure to show them your appreciation by learning a little more about their companies, products and services.

Hello and Welcome! You are in for an exciting and action packed day today!

We are thrilled kick off with a warm welcome from our Board President, Anna Keenan-Mudrick, and an engaging Keynote presentation by Executive Coach, Professor and Author Alonzo Kelly.

This afternoon at 1:00 pm please be sure to support our Self-Advocates by joining in on their discussion of what a life of Thriving means to them. The panel will be moderated by our Board Vice-President, Jeff Whalen, and will include two of our board directors and two staff members, all who experience developmental disabilities and are eager to share their personal perspectives with you.

In addition to these great general sessions, today we are offering 3 different breakout sessions with a total of 7 options to choose from.

Don’t worry if there are too many choices. All sessions will be recorded and posted on the session page for viewing later. You will have access to all content through June 30^th, so you can peruse other sessions at your convenience.

Welcome to The Arc Oregon’s 2021 Virtual Convention! We are so happy you are joining us and hope you find it educational and engaging.

Today you have access to all our pre-recorded content, which includes four sessions and early viewing of The R-Word movie.

Please be sure to join us tonight as we jump start the convention with a live Town Hall event, featuring conversations with Oregon Senator Sara Gelser and Oregon State Representative Rob Nosse. Do you have a question for one of the legislators? Be sure to submit your question now using our online form. The moderator will be collecting all questions and organizing them to present to the legislators.

Thriving in a Residential Setting

Your home is your castle. The color you paint your bedroom, what you decide will be on the menu this week and getting together with your friends for bowling practice is only limited by your budget and time you have available – and, maybe your painting skills! However, if you are living in a licensed or certified setting with roommates, working with family, support staff, and an ISP team – sometimes it isn’t that easy. Let’s talk about your rights, how to communicate what you want, and how to quickly find and use resources to help you affect change in your home to live the life you want.

Understanding How to Establish and Access My Oregon Special Needs Trust

This session will discuss the requirements for establishing a sub-account within the Oregon Special Needs Trust (whether 1st or 3rd party) and answer the difference between a pooled special needs trust and a private special needs trust (and how ABLE can fit into the mix). We will also explore the process for the uses for the OSNT, the process for requesting funds, and have time for questions and answers.

The course will provide an overview of the Standards for Excellence 67 performance indicators and give participants an opportunity to assess their own organizations. Attendees will learn how to tap into a complete library of the resources available to nonprofits who wish to use the Standards for Excellence to strengthen their organizations. The concepts covered are relevant to organizations of all sizes.
