Building a Foundation to Support a Good Life – Navigating Developmental Disability Services and Community Resources in Oregon

In this interactive workshop, participants will explore essential resources, supports, and planning tools that help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live full, meaningful lives in their communities. Learn how Oregon’s history, service structures, and person centered practices come together to create opportunities for independence, connection, and long term success.
Through stories, activities, and real world examples, participants will learn how to access services, understand roles like SCs and PAs, explore HCBS requirements, and advocate for person centered supports.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe how Oregon’s history and advocacy efforts shaped today’s DD service system.
  • Identify who does what within Oregon’s DD system—CDDPs, Brokerages, SCs, and PAs.
  • Explain the K Plan and why it expands access to home and community based supports.
  • Describe the purpose of the Oregon ISP and how it reflects what matters to and for a person.
  • Connect individuals and families with community partners, networks, and advocacy resources.
