About this training

This session introduces the foundations of trauma-informed care and why it matters for creating safe, respectful environments. We’ll explore what trauma is, how toxic stress impacts the brain and body, and why understanding the neuroscience behind trauma-informed care is essential. You’ll learn what trauma-informed care is—and isn’t, and discover practical ways to respond with empathy and support. Together, we’ll discuss strategies for making spaces and services feel safer and more welcoming for everyone.

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Define trauma and toxic stress, and describe how they affect health, behavior, and relationships.
  • Explain the core principles of trauma-informed care and why they are important.
  • Understand the neuroscience behind trauma-informed approaches.
  • Identify what trauma-informed care is—and what it is not.
  • Apply practical strategies to create safe, supportive environments for all.
