Children’s Mental Health: A Basic Overview of Common Childhood Diagnoses

This training will cover symptoms of common childhood mental health diagnoses, strategies to support children, and ways to approach parents with concerns. Diagnoses covered include Autism, ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, adjustment disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, attachment disorders, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, reactive attachment disorder, and disinhibited social engagement disorder.

Participants will be able to:

  • Name symptoms to watch for in children that may indicate they are struggling with a mental health disorder.
  • Describe ways to structure the classroom schedule and learning environment in order to support children struggling with mental health diagnoses.
  • Describe at least three to five strategies to support children struggling with potential mental health symptoms in the classroom. name two to three resources for children with mental health diagnoses.
  • Outline how to approach parents with concerns about their children’s mental health.
