Trainer Roles
Alice began her career as a music teacher in Washington State, but within just a few years found herself drawn into the field of IDD services. Growing up with two wonderful sisters, one of whom experiences intellectual disabilities, drew Alice to serve in this field.
After moving to Oregon in 1987, Alice began working for a group home agency in Pendleton and stayed for the next 14 years, the last six years serving as the agency’s Executive Director. In 2001, Alice joined the Eastern Oregon Regional Crisis Program, where she served as the program’s Manager. In that role over the next 18 years, she certified children’s IDD foster homes, provided crisis services to children and adults with IDD, did behavior consultation work, and trained on a variety of topics. During this time, Alice served as a Master Oregon Intervention System (OIS) Instructor, helping to certify many new instructors throughout Eastern Oregon.
Alice joined The Arc Oregon team in 2020. Her core value is to be of service and finding ways to be truly helpful to persons experiencing disability and those who support them. Alice is happiest when making meaningful connections with people, including in the training classroom. Her lived experience as a family member brings an overlay of compassion to her work. Alice’s background in teaching and long years of service inform her training and practices.
Outside of work, Alice still enjoys music as a lifelong pursuit. She plays violin in a community orchestra and sings with a community choir. Alice also enjoys reading, golfing, walking, camping, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets.
