Provider Spotlight: Yadi Sado
by Diane Pearson, GAPS advocate

In January 2024 I coordinated a move for Barb, one of the people I support, into Yadi and Emmanuel’s Adult Foster Home in Salem. I knew that this would be good for Barb. Yadi naturally anticipates the needs of the people she serves to make them comfortable. She’s always one step ahead and makes sure that they get all the care they need. She’s very thoughtful, ensuring that clothes fit well, preferred foods are offered, rooms are neat and clean, and everyone is well-groomed. On top of that Yadi’s home always smells welcoming because they cook meals from scratch. Even when a resident needs a pureed diet, the homemade meal is cooked and prepared with care.
When Barb moved into Yadi’s home, I was impressed by how much Yadi wanted to understand Barb’s history and what is important to Barb. She made sure that Barb was able to visit her brother. Even though they do not appear to interact with each other Yadi makes sure they get together because she knows that connection is important to Barb. Yadi also knows that Barb is most comfortable in the car, and she takes her on rides while also slowly encouraging her to get out of the vehicle to explore new places to see what might “click”. She’s has purchased sensory toys that involve water because Barb enjoys the feel and movement of water. I greatly appreciate Yadi’s willingness to try new things and provide new experiences that make Barb’s life better.
When Barb moved in, Yadi proactively set her up with new medical providers. I met the two at a medical appointment and was impressed with Yadi’s understanding of Barb’s reluctance to enter a medical building and meet with the provider. Yadi arranged for staff to sit in the vehicle with Barb while we went inside and completed all paperwork and waited for the appointment time. When it was time for the appointment Yadi guided Barb into the building. Hand in hand, Yadi quietly explained to Barb what was happening and what she needed to do, like step on scale, sit in a chair, or roll up her sleeve. I admired the patience and empathy that Yadi showed to Barb. I especially appreciated how she made sure that Barb was able to leave as soon as possible. It helped Barb avoid a lot anxiety and stress she otherwise would have had.
It has been a joy to see Barb thrive in Yadi’s home. I can see that she is building trust with Yadi and the other staff and that she feels safe in her environment. I am seeing Barb’s beautiful smile more and more, and it is wonderful to see her get out every day. I appreciate the ongoing, daily care that Barb receives along with Yadi’s desire to discover new ways to enrich Barb’s life. As I wrote this I couldn’t stop smiling. I’m just so delighted that Barb has found a home where she receives such depth of care and the opportunity to thrive.
Thank you, Yadi!
